The Directors: Quentin Tarantino

I'm going to do a series of posts called "The Directors" which consist of admirations of specific movie directors that I take interest in.

Today's director post is on Quentin Tarantino. I like his work because he has a certain style in his movies -- postmodern nonlinear storylines, and stylized violence interwoven with often-obscure cinematic references. His work includes Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill (Vol. 1 and 2), and Death Proof featured in Grindhouse.

He wrote True Romance (directed by Tony Scott), originally wrote Natural Born Killers (directed by Oliver Stone) but Stone made changes Tarantino didn't like yet Tarantino is credited for story.

He wrote a vignette in the anthology film Four Rooms, which, IMO, is the best room in the movie. It is called The Man from Hollywood. The other three rooms were written and directed by Allison Anders (The Missing Ingridient), Alexandre Rockwell (The Wrong Man) and Robert Rodriguez (The Misbehavers) who collaberated with Tarantino in Grindhouse. IMO, I don't really much approve of the first two rooms, but the last two are the best out of the whole movie.

Speaking of Tarantino and Rodriguez again, Tarantino wrote and Rodriguez directed From Dusk Till Dawn. He also directed the ER episode Motherhood and the CSI episode Grave Danger (2-parter).

He won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and the Palme D'or for Pulp Fiction, and was nominated for an Emmy for Best Directing for the CSI episode.

Tarantino played in his movies as minor characters: Jimmie Dimmick (Pulp Fiction) and Mr. Brown (Reservoir Dogs), and Chester Rush in his segment in Four Rooms. IMO, I think his best role was Chester Rush. It's so well-acted and well-written.

Here's Tarantino in action:

WARNING: If anyone is offended by racial slurs, don't watch this clip.

Here it is! The Man from Hollywood. FYI, the reason why Ted (Tim Roth) freaks out at the girl at the door, you have to watch The Wrong Man to get the idea.

I love how this entire scene is done in one single shot!

The ending's a bit funny, isn't it?

New post tommorow!

Welcome!

The title of the blog speaks for itself -- I am a militant movie buff myself. Reading scripts, watching movies all day, talking about movies, blah blah blah. I have my own YouTube account, baxterfilms where my stepbrother, Derek, me, and my friend Cory make Stupid Ass Motherfuckers, a simple parody of Jackass. I edit all the videos, and I also made other videos if you look at the profile. One purpose I'm making this blog is because I wrote a screenplay for the three Jackass members and my friends from school to be in. I will post the details about the movie once I finish shooting.
